Spectral monitoring guide

Monitoring recurring NIR exports with watched folders

A practical workflow for reviewing recurring spectral exports without confusing file arrival, import health, and spectral change.

Monitoring recurring NIR exports with watched folders

A watched folder connects a recurring export location to a defined spectral comparison. It reduces manual file selection, but it does not remove the need to check whether files arrived, parsed correctly, and belong to the intended measurement workflow.

Define the source clearly

Choose a folder whose contents have one understood purpose. Record the instrument or export process that writes to it, the expected file types, the usual arrival pattern, and the monitor that consumes the files. If several instruments or workflows share a folder, create a clear routing rule before treating every new file as comparable.

Preview a representative first file with the real importer. Confirm units, measurement axis, spectral columns, scan boundaries, sample identifiers, and useful recorded fields. A folder path that exists does not prove the next file will follow the same layout.

Separate three kinds of status

File arrival, import health, and spectral findings are different signals.

A quiet folder may reflect a planned pause, an acquisition problem, or a path that the service cannot reach. A readable file can still contain incompatible measurements. A spectral difference can occur while the source and importer are healthy.

Preserve a reproducible history

Keep each accepted import connected to its source file and acquisition context. Avoid silently replacing earlier records when a new export arrives. When column roles or units need correction, make the corrected interpretation explicit and show which downstream comparisons depend on it.

Drift Watcher checks supported new arrivals against the selected reference and makes them available for review in the local workspace. The application can notify the user when new scans have been imported while it is running and permitted to show system notifications.

Operational checklist

The demo qualification form asks for the operating system, instrument, and export format so the watched-folder path can be discussed before an evaluation installer is issued.
